What you will learn:
Painting with Glassline paints: Laura will teach some basic painting and design fundamentals in this class. Her main goal is to focus on how to best apply, layer and control the outcome of glassline paints on a bead surface to create a wearable mini-masterpiece. In the final step, students will learn how to fireset their painted creations without distorting the images or the bead. Each student will complete several painted beads and leave with the knowledge and skills to continue experimenting with Glassline paints in their own studios.
Creating a Canvas Bead: Making/Choosing and preparing a base bead for painting. Laura will go over how to make the base beads (our canvas) and how to prep the surface of glass for better painting results.
The day after class ends, your painted beads will be processed (taken off mandrels), cleaned and ready for pickup.
Introduction: A bit about Laura’s painted beads and how they came to be:
My journey with paint started early. I began painting with oils at the age of 8 as part of an art therapy program and over the years my love of paint as a medium has only continued to expand. From the beginning with oils, to acrylic and watercolors, to large scale murals. Finally, in 2015, my love of painting merged with my love of glass and found a perfect combination in Glassline Paint Products. These paints can be applied on ANY COE of glass. I have successfully used them on Float, 90, 96, 104 and even airbrushed on Boro (33). Flat backed cabochons or sheets can be fired easily in a kiln, but what we are doing here with beads (3D shapes) is a bit more difficult. We need to bring the paint up to 1500 degrees to gloss and set, but the 104 Effetre white glass will start to melt and distort at 1000 degrees. I went through months of experiments and trial and error to figure out the right timing and techniques to guarantee that every bead turned out perfect.
