Alan Austin

Description

Since earning his BFA in Studio Sculpture in 1997, Alan has dedicated his career to fine art casting and fabrication. Prior to becoming a member of the Hot Shops Art Center in 2013, he worked as a foundryman in Lawrence, Kansas, where he mastered all aspects of transforming sculptors’ original works into monumental bronze through the lost wax process.

Alan’s personal sculpture works explore figures with volume and expressive patinas, showcasing his mastery as a patineur and bringing depth and movement to each surface finish. With his deep understanding of metalwork, Alan also fabricates, restores, and maintains sculpture for public and private collections across the Midwest, preserving the integrity and beauty of works in bronze, steel, and beyond.

From intimate studio pieces and private commissions to nationally recognized installations and public monuments, Alan has contributed to numerous projects across the country. His work reflects a commitment to technical excellence and to preserving the power of sculpture for generations to come.
