Bookbinding Class: Japanese Bindings & the Art of Suminagashi (2 Sessions)

Drop by drop, we will explore the ancient craft of Suminagashi by manipulating inks on the surface of a water bath to create beautifully designed prints. We will touch on the history behind the craft, as well as tools and techniques. We will begin our exploration by creating a suite of prints suitable for framing, gift wrap, or bookbinding structures. Participants will develop their own patterns and transfer their ideas to the bindery in a series of traditional Japanese Stab Bindings. No previous marbling or bookbinding experience is required, all materials provided.
