December 4th and 5th, 2010
Saturday, noon - 8 pm / Sunday, noon - 5 pm
(4 Artisians 'Hot Shops' / 50+ Artist Studios / 4 Art Galleries)
PURPOSE: The Hot Shops Art Center is presenting the Holiday Open House, Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th. From the small child to the serious art collector, the Holiday Open House fits everyone's taste. The event features fun and informative art demonstrations and live music, with residents of the Hot Shops opening their studios to the public. All of the galleries host events. Local acoustic musicians will perform throughout the center. We invite the community to visit the Hot Shops Art Center and experience a unique Omaha art venue.
ARTWORK: The artwork created at the Art Center ranges from drawings, paintings, prints, photography and digital imagery to sculptures, installations, pottery, glass art, weaving, custom furniture, and clay, iron, brass, and aluminum cast architectural pieces. Visit the studio artists section for a small sampling of their work.
DEMONSTRATIONS:
Ever wondered what it takes to make a bronze sculpture or glaze a pot? The artists process is revealed as Hot Shops residents show the public how they perform their craft--entertaining and educational!

REFRESHMENTS: Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be available to guests in the individual artists studios.
|
LIVE MUSIC: Musical groups will perform during the evening. Because visitors will be walking throughout the three floors of the 92,000 square foot building, (an elevator is available) the bands will be performing on separate floors. Some artists will have music inside their studios.
|
GALLERIES: Artists show their work on a continuous basis in our art galleries. Check the galleries link for more information, a list of openings and scheduled events.
First, Second & Third Floor Hallway/Artways: These extra wide passageways throughout the building are filled with artwork created by Studio Artists. The artists generally hang new pieces just for the open house, so don't forget to tour all of the floors within the Hot Shops.
FOOD DRIVE: In this time of economic turmoil, please remember to give to area food banks. The need to fight hunger is greater than ever before, and we need your help. During December and January the Hot Shops and other area galleries will be accepting nonperishable food donations and grocery store gift cards in an effort to store up the shelves at the food bank. Our Holiday Open House is a great time for a lot of people to bring a lot of food, so please come down and help get the word out!
For artists and friends of the Hot Shops interested in participating in the January Pot Luck show they should contact Paula at the Hot Shops: paulaswallace@gmail.com. Entry fee is a nonperishable food item (or two!).
Free to the public.
Please help us to fuel the fire...Donations always welcome!!!
