Up the Stream Without a Paddle
Delivering Video on the Internet Streaming Media Workshop
Learn how to go from a final cut of your film to delivering it on the web for the masses. Topics covered: Background on streaming media, progressive and RTSP, bandwidth considerations, compression and codecs (i.e. H.264), uploading your media to a streaming server, and embedding your media in a webpage. Students are encouraged to bring their laptops, and have QuickTime Pro installed if possible.

Women In Documentary Film
Three women who all write, produce, and direct documentary programming, will be coming to the Hot Shops Film Festival! Join us when Mel Bucklin (nominated for a Writer's Guild of America award and a national Emmy and a Peabody award for An Exceedingly Dangerous Woman: The Radical Life of Emma Goldman), Christine Lesiak (won the George Foster Peabody Award and the Writer's Guild Award for Monkey Trial, plus numerous awards, including the Cine Golden Eagle, Gold Apple, and the Gabriel Award), and Michele Wolford (joined NET in 2000 as a Producer/Director and is currently producing a CPB-funded documentary) come to talk about their struggles and triumphs in the world of documentary. Insights from Hollywood!
President of Seven Summits Management, William Blaylock, is coming to the Hot Shops Film Festival! Seven Summits is a Hollywood management company (though located in Beverly Hills), that represents movie stars such as Zooey Deschanel, Judge Reinhold and Sean Bean (among others), as well as writers, producers, and Academy Award winning directors. William Blaylock will be talking about his insights to the business side of Hollywood, and will answer questions that arise during the talk.
